Fresh Thinking on IT Operations for 100,000 Industry Executives

It’s a pretty good question given the perilous state of the US power distribution network, the ever increasing load and the ever increasing dependance (around the world) for US based IT and network systems.

My friend Professor Massoud Amin (the global authority on what is wrong and how to fix it) is running a free webinar on the 23rd June for anyone who is interested in this space and what is being done about it. I strongly recommend attendance.

Here is the invitation:

Dear Colleagues,
With all the attention that the stimulus package has brought to Energy in general and the Smart Grid in particular, I continue to receive hundreds of inquisitive emails on a daily basis.  Many of them containing questions and comments that are very pertinent and insightful, and I wish I had more time to respond to each and every email.

In the hopes of reaching many of you all at once and to help create a dialogue within our capable community, I would like to extend an invitation to a webinar entitled “Making the Electric Power Grid Smarter, Stronger, Greener, and More Secure” which is jointly presented by the Center for the Development of Technological Leadership (CDTL) and the Smart Grid Learning Institute.

During the presentation, I hope to address some of the issues that have been raised, including:

  • The current status of the electric power grid
  • A historical context as to what has happened during the last 10-15 years
  • Pathways forward on how we can make the Grid Smarter, Stronger, Greener, and More Secure

In addition, we will have time during the last 15 minutes to answer your questions.

Here are the details:

Title: “Making the Electric Power Grid Smarter, Stronger, Greener, and More Secure”
Date: Tuesday, June 23
Time: 2:30 – 3:30pm ET
Cost: Free

Registration: https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/247597690

I hope that you can participate and find this helpful and, as always, I welcome our collaborations in this timely area.

Best regards,
Massoud

There Are 3 Responses So Far. »

  1. Is there an estimate (with projections) of the total power consumption of data centers in the US?

  2. Hi Jonathan,
Yes there is some data out there about this – for example, the US EPA report from 2007: http://www.energystar.gov/ia/partners/prod_deve...
Numbers like 2% of all electricity produced; 60 billion kWh in 2006 rising to 107 billion kWh by 2011, etc. There is other data, too.
Hope that helps. Be happy to discuss further with you.
    Philip
