Data centers are energy hogs, so anyone who tells you differently is talking out of the wrong orifice, so when I read about a hosting company launching a Carbon Neutral data center, it really annoyed me.
I got a press release from Attenda’s PR agency informing me that – easyCar.com, Fulham Football Club, Datamonitor and TM Group will be first to achieve CarbonNeutral® hosting accreditation through Attenda; The CarbonNeutral Company to provide carbon offset services.
There is one born every day and anyone who thinks Carbon offsets are the solution to the planets ills are at best deluded. Carbon offsets are the easy out way of avoiding the hard work of shutting down applications and servers that aren’t needed any more and running the cooling systems more efficiently.
